In May of 2015, comedian Kathy Griffin posted a photo of her holding a decapitated and bloody prop head of President Trump. She says her purpose of the rather gruesome photo was to be amusing, but it was certainly not received that way. After posting, she immediately began receiving threatening and hateful comments, and she took the photo down. The FBI even sent her safety tips explaining how to handle hate mail and potential dangerous threats. Public figures from both sides of the political spectrum, from Anderson Cooper to Donald Trump Jr., denounced Griffin. Soon, CNN announced they were firing her from her position as co-host of the New Year’s Eve broadcast. Other gigs across the country began canceling her shows as well. Now, she claims she has been “blacklisted” by television networks and ignored by her celebrity friends. |
